Actions Speak Louder Than Words
At CCCS, we believe that serving our community means taking action. For many years, our students have been actively involved in supporting both the local community and international causes. From the early days of the school’s existence, students have been encouraged to give to others. Gifts have included money, time, and prayers.
Some of the service projects we have completed involve: supporting the Terry Fox Foundation (for over 10 years); reaching out to the less fortunate in our own community by raising funds through sock hops, bottle drives, and non-perishable food collections for the local St. Vincent de Paul Society; working monthly shifts at the Rainbow Kitchen preparing, serving, and cleaning up the lunch meal for those in our own community who are struggling; and collecting substantial cash and school supply donations for victims of the Tsunami in Indonesia and the earthquake in Haiti.
One of the most rewarding actions that the student body has taken on has been the sponsorship of Tokho Dalkho, an 11-year-old boy who lives in India. For the past 6 years, we have supported Tokho by selling poinsettias at Christmas and also by donating our spare change once a month. Our most recent report (January 2011) found Tokho very happy, healthy, and excelling in his studies!
The staff of CCCS believes that our world needs children who care about and contribute to the community – be it local or global. We believe that our students will be CREW – not simply passengers – during their journey through life.
