Grade 4

January 2012

Happy New Year everyone!

One of the many, many reasons I particularly enjoy teaching Grade 4 is their unbounded enthusiasm for everything connected to school life. They are the first ones with hands up to join every new club, sport or activity offered. In fact, their worst scenario is when two events are organized for the same day of the week and they have to choose. Hence the popularity of the Robotics Club offered by Stuart Hall – all but four of the students attend this over Thursday lunchtimes. Other popular choices are the Seekers club, Swim Club and upcoming Skating Club.

Today, this enthusiasm was channelled into using their significant powers of persuasion to try and convince me to acquire a classroom pet. So far, the choices range from a tarantula to a clew of earthworms, with assorted suggestions in between. Watch this space to see how long they take to wear me down and into submission!

By the end of January, we shall have completed the Ministry of Education FSA work and be set on course to enjoy the varied activities associated with the Grade 4 curriculum. There are several events on the agenda, the first being a visit from the Art Gallery on Thursday. The students in this class are prolific artists and I know they will enjoy the experience offered by the visitors.
