We are looking for Responsible Adults and/or Early Childhood Educators to join our Lux Mundi Out-of-School-Care Team. We are looking to fill multiple positions for this program. This team works during school closures throughout the year, such as Christmas, Spring and Summer breaks. Our Lux Mundi Out-of-School-Care Program takes a team approach with parents, staff, and the school to nurture and guide the children through their elementary school years, acknowledging that each child is an individual.

Position Summary

Early Childhood Educators and adult counsellors ensure the children, families, and staff are supported throughout the day. Educators will plan, implement and review developmentally appropriate activities, curriculum and practices. Educators will ensure that the health and safety of all children in the environment are met daily. Educators will ensure they follow and uphold The BC Child Care Licensing Rules, Regulations and Policies, Cathedral School Childcare, and JK policies and procedures. All Staff will report to the Facility Manager.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of 15-30 children with other qualified staff.

  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and other staff.

  • Ensure accurate records of children’s attendance and ensure that children in attendance are always accounted for.

  • Assist with daily routines, including child-directed activities, transition times, prep work, set-up, and cleanup of all environments.

  • Lead outdoor activities (rain or shine) that are age appropriate.

 

Skills and qualifications:

​

Required

  • Must be at least 19 years of age

  • Clear a criminal record check

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Top-notch interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work as part of a team

  • Physically and psychologically capable of working with children ages 5-11

​

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Knowledge of the developmental stages and needs of children 5-11 years and an ability to guide and plan activities based on these stages and needs

  • Current Emergency First Aid with CPR-C is preferred but not necessary

  • 20 hours of training in child development, nutrition and or health and safety (training opportunities available)

  • Familiarity with Ministry of Children and Family Development licensing regulations is an asset

Wages and benefits:

  • $19.50 – $21.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

  • 4% vacation pay

  • Eligible Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) will receive the $4/hr Wage Enhancement provided by the BC Ministry of Childcare Services.
