Senior Staff Accountant

Reporting to the Director of Finance, Cathedral School is currently seeking a Senior Staff Accountant. Playing a key role to support the administration on various financial management tasks, the Senior Staff Accountant will support the Finance Director by processing payroll, and managing both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, along with other assigned tasks. Adding to this, as part of the CCCS staff, the position requires a commitment to acting as a school ambassador and toward building on community relations. The Senior Staff Accountant’s role is essential to support the Director of Finance in maintaining financial health and mission fulfillment of our school as a not-for-profit organization.

Compensation for this position will range between $60 000 - $70 000 depending on experience and credentials. The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for the following:

  • Payroll processing: enter payroll information for both bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls, enter new employee information, enter benefit payroll deductions and preparation of Record of Employment (ROE).

  • Accounts Payable (AP) transactions: review validity of payables, ensure timely payments, ensure all transactions are properly recorded;  ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with budget and policy.

  • Accounts Receivable (AR) transactions: renew validity of receivables, ensure timely payments, ensure all transactions are properly recorded, preparation of monthly statements; ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with budget and policy.

  • Processing and recording of all banking related deposits - e-transfers, Pre-authorized Debits (PAD), government funding, and preparation of bank deposits. 

  • Assist in providing information for creating the annual budget.

  • Support month-end and year-end processes.
     

The Senior Staff Accountant will have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting; professional accounting designation preferred.

  • 3 to 5 years of accounting work experience in the areas of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.  

  • Work experience in an educational or registered charity environment is preferable.

  • Working knowledge of fund accounting.

  • Knowledge of Simply (Sage50) Accounting and intuitive ability to grasp new software programs.

  • Strong Excel skills, ability to produce spreadsheets for budgeting and other financial purposes.

  • Demonstrated record-keeping skills; ability to meet reporting and regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to manage the workload independently; strong people skills, along with focused attention to detail and accuracy.
